John Curran is a British professional drummer and drum teacher based in Porto, Portugal, with over 20 years of experience performing, recording and teaching music.

Throughout his career, John has performed across the UK and Europe, worked with musicians from around the world and taught over 250 students of all ages and abilities.

His teaching philosophy is simple: learning an instrument should be fun, rewarding and something to look forward to.

John believes every student learns differently, which is why each lesson is tailored to their individual goals, musical interests and learning pace. Whether picking up drumsticks for the first time, preparing for graded exams or developing more advanced techniques, lessons are designed around what inspires each student.

With a calm, patient and encouraging approach, John creates a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes and building confidence at their own pace.

A key part of his teaching philosophy is learning through music. Rather than focusing solely on exercises and technique, John encourages students to explore the songs, artists and styles they enjoy, making the learning process both practical and engaging.

Above all, John's goal is to help every student develop their musical abilities, enjoy their progress and leave each lesson feeling motivated and excited to play again.

From complete beginners to experienced drummers, John's lessons offer a fun, supportive and personalised approach to learning the drums.
